Biography
Lauren M. Bouza (b. 1997, Miami, FL.) is a photo-based artist working in both analog and digital formats. Bouza's work is centered around capturing the fleeting moments of daily life, documenting both the mundane and extraordinary. Her practice incorporates video, photography, and tactile processes, all of which serve her ongoing exploration of light, shadow, and memory. Bouza has been part of group shows in Miami at gallery spaces such as Edge Zones, The Betancourt Gallery, and KDR305. She is currently based in Miami, where she continues to develop her personal and professional practice.
Bouza’s early work focused on cultural empathy and bridging divides between people through the lens of her camera. Her exploration of global themes, such as the women’s menstrual cycle, allowed her to create intimate, raw imagery that raised awareness around these issues. Over time, her practice has evolved to focus more on self-reflection and the personal experience, as she finds herself rooted in Miami after years of travel.
Currently, Bouza is exploring new ways of using photography to reflect her daily routines and internal states, creating self-portraits that speak to her journey of self-discovery. Light and shadows continue to play a pivotal role in her work, shaping the world around her and offering a constant source of inspiration. Bouza's work seeks to preserve life’s fleeting moments, emphasizing the importance of documenting and archiving memories to create a lasting record of ones life.
